BHS Alum Takes Her Passion for the Theatre to FSU Stage

Behind every show, there are those behind the scenes, dressed in black, making the show run seamlessly.  Rayleen Working is one such person. The BHS 2014 grad is now working her magic on the Fairmont State University stage, as she prepares for the upcoming production of “Sleepy Hollow”.

The play conjures up images of Ichabod Crane being chased through the woods by the Headless Horseman.  It is fitting, then, that it opens on Halloween in the Wallman Hall Theatre.  The show runs October 31, November 1,6,7, and 8, with 7:30 shows each night. There will also be a 2:00 performance on November 2 and all tickets are $10.

Working honed her technical skills in the Theatre Department at BHS, working behind the scenes of virtually every production during her high school years.  “Theatre became like a family to me,” says Working.  “It taught me how to break out of my shyness and work with others efficiently.”

“Theatre has grown to be a true passion of mine,” said Working.  “Now that I am in college, I knew Theatre would be my major.”  In “Sleepy Hollow”, Working is breaking out of her comfort zone.  “ In the past, I usually stick to make-up and scenery, but in this production, I will be doing the light board,” said Working.  “The FSU Department of Theatre encourages us to broaden our horizons and try new things.  I will also be helping with scene painting and I have gained a new appreciation for costume design, which is amazing in this production.”

“It would be great to see some Bridgeport faces in the audience and let them know that what started at BHS has continued at the collegiate level.  The community support for the theatre program at BHS is wonderful and the things I learned there definitely prepared me for the FSU program.”
