BHS Thespian Troupe to Give Free Performance Prior to Competition

From making Peter Pan fly to riding a motorcycle on stage, the BHS Theater Department has made quite an impression on our community.  It seems Jason Young is tireless in his efforts to showcase the talents of young thespians, as he will now be directing a one-act play for the groups’ upcoming competition.

“Scenes from Sing Down the Moon: Appalachian Wonder Tales” by Mary Hall Surface and David Maddox is being produced by special arrangement with Dramatic Publishing Company of Woodstock, Illinois.  The play is a musical collection of folk tales that fit together like a quilt.  Although it is a full-length musical, the BHS Troupe will be cutting it down to fit into the 45-minute limit for the Thespian One Act Play Competition.

On Thursday, February 12, there will be a free community performance at 7pm in the BHS auditorium.  The show is appropriate for all ages and allows the community to show its support before the Troupe heads to Morgantown the following Saturday for the competition.

Featured tales include “Catskins,” “The Sow and Her Three Pigs,” and “The Enchanted Tree.”  If they win, the BHS Thespian Troupe will advance to the state competition in Charleston next month.  “The students have been working really hard for this competition, many who are also involved in practices for the school play,” said Thespian Troupe Director Jared St. Martin Brown.  “With Jason directing, we have high hopes of placing at regionals.”From making Peter Pan fly to riding a motorcycle on stage, the BHS Theater Department has made quite an impression on our community.  It seems Jason Young is tireless in his efforts to showcase the talents of young thespians, as he will now be directing a one-act play for the groups’ upcoming competition.
