Bridgeport Arts Council has released the Music in the Park series for the summer of 2015. The Council has considered public demand and musical excellence in presenting some of the most accomplished and talented musicians in North Central West Virginia, said Tom Randolph, board member.

 

Featuring local and regional artists, the concert series kicks off Thursday, June 18 at Bridgeport City Park and will be held on subsequent Thursdays through Aug. 13. The schedule is as follows:

 

June 18: Greg Harrison and John Bonnett

June 25: The Masons

July 2: The Davisson Brothers Band

July 16: Dennis McClung Blues Band

July 23: Salsamba (Jazz Night)

July 30: South Mountain Soul

Aug. 6: Wyatt Turner

Aug. 13: The Grey Agents

As the 2015 Benedum Festival will be ongoing at City Park Thursday, July 9, the Arts Council will be involved in that endeavor rather than hosting its own event, Randolph said.

 

In addition to planning the Music in the Park series, members of Bridgeport Arts Council have been concentrating on securing grant dollars for some future projects.

 

“That’s something we hadn’t done before,” said Randolph, a first-year member. “We reorganized about a year ago and decided we wanted to go into some new directions and needed money for that.”

 

Some of the directions which the Arts Council hopes to expand include visual arts, theater and possibly ballet, Randolph said. To successfully present those types of events, it is necessary to have an accessible, available venue – another project on which the Arts Council is focusing.
