Bridgeport Native Scott Simons Recording Customized "Paw Patrol" Theme Songs as COVID-19 Fundraiser

First, there was “Paw Patrol,” then the spinoff, “Mighty Pups.”

Now, Bridgeport native and vocalist for the series’ theme songs, Scott Simons has another pet project.

He’s recording personalized versions of the famed “Paw Patrol” theme song with half the proceeds benefiting The Midnight Mission, an LA-based nonprofit which presently is working to help victims of COVID-19.

Much like recording the popular kids’ tune, the idea kind of fell in his lap, he said.

“For the last few years, I’ve gotten calls once in a while from a musician – someone I am a fan of – who, out of nowhere said their kid is obsessed with the song and give his kid a shout out,” Simons said. “Just over Christmas break, I was in West Virginia with my family when I got a call from LA – a songwriter who said he had a ‘Paw Patrol’ emergency.”

That, too, was a request for a customized theme song.

Soon thereafter, a friend of Simons’ – who happens to sing the Chuck E. Cheese theme song – suggested that Simons feature the personalized songs on the Cameo app.

“I signed up because I figured people outside my bubble wanted them – and they did,” he said. “I had done a few, then Coronavirus hit.”

It was March 9 when “America’s Got Talent,” for which Simons serves as pianist, stopped production.

By March 17, Simons was pretty much on lockdown and working very little.

“I had definitely been affected by loss of work. My situation is precarious. Being a musician, especially a freelance, independent contractor is really tough as I have no idea when I’ll be working.”

But Simons said he considers himself fortunate to be earning a living with music, something he loves, and wanted to use that tool to help others, too. He began keeping his eyes open for a charitable organization.

“A friend of mine was delivering meals through The Midnight Mission. I saw that they were legit and were good at what they do,” he said.

In his first wave of customized songs, Simons made $300 for the nonprofit. As long as he’s on quarantine from work, he will continue.

“As long as we’re stuck at home and kids need a little entertainment, we’ll raise some money and it’s a win-win-win,” Simons said.

This weekend, all Cameo proceeds will benefit an organization which provides meals to children.
