Clarksburg Native JP Miller to be Featured on New TV Gospel Music Show

By Julie Perine on October 26, 2014 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

For three years, folks have kicked back in easy chairs at Ogle Furniture Outlet on Dolly Parton Parkway and watched the Smoky Mountain Gospel Jubilee live on Monday nights. Those in their home recliners have been doing some toe tapping, too. By tuning into Praise 96.3/WJBZ, their enjoyment of the show has been limited to listening – until now.

Home-based fans of the broadcast now have a front row seat. The Smoky Mountain Gospel Jubilee – hosted by Clarksburg native and Fairmont State alum JP Miller and featuring gospel music, ministry and local happenings of the Sevierville, Tenn. area – is now being televised via The Christian Television Network (CTN). In the Smoky Mountain region, the show airs Sunday mornings on Comcast/iHopeTV/Channel 241. Viewers in other regional markets can catch the show 7:30 p.m. Monday and Saturday.

As has become tradition, the Smoky Mountain Gospel Jubilee happens live at Ogle Furniture Outlet at 6:30 p.m. Mondays. In addition to show host JP Miller, scheduled guests – and a few surprises – the gospel showcase has become quite a hit for its prize drawings including items such as dinette sets, mattresses, recliners, rocking chairs and tickets to regional attractions. In its third year, the show has become even bigger than ever before. You might say that has been due to popular demand.

“Back in January, we thought of stopping the show. It was going great, but I felt like moving on to another venture – but the community didn’t agree,” Miller said. “People called, emailed and showed up at the furniture store and the radio station. Some were in tears. Some folks told us they take their lunch break at work so they can hear the show and that because they worked Sundays, it was church for them.”
Not only did the show go on, but Ogle Furniture Store owner Ron Ogle took it to a whole new level.

“Ron and his construction team built a stage from a salvaged 200-year-old mill from Greenbrier, Tenn., added sponsors, a weekly live band, appearances at community activities and put it on television!” Miller said.

Ron and Betty Ogle’s heart for their lifelong home of Sevierville and their deep faith in Christ is reflected not only through the show, but also through their work at Parkway Church of God, where they sponsor the youth group for which Miller serves as leader.

Miller’s career highlights include the co-hosting of “Inside Gospel” with Lou Wills Hildreth with guests Bill Gaither, Mark Lowry, Ricky Skaggs, Dottie Rambo and Hovie Lister, among many others. Also a founding member of the top-rated trio “First Love,” Miller has become a recognizable personality in the Southern Gospel Music industry.

The Smoky Mountain Gospel Jubilee has filled a unique niche in his music ministry.

“The radio show has been a breath of fresh air,” he said. “It’s humbling and exciting that it means so much to many people and has been so successful.”

Featuring members of Triumphant Quartet, Arthur Rice of The Kingdom Heirs, Tim and Mary Alice Lovelace, Calvin Newton of The Oak Ridge Boys, Jeff Steele, Freedom Quartet, “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” star Grayson Russell and weekly sponsor Tony Gore, The Smoky Mountain Gospel Jubilee has become the place to be on Monday nights.
