GALLERY: Prom 2014 Masquerade Party

By Julie Perine on April 14, 2014 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Thanks to the handiwork of the BHS junior class, Village Square Conference Center was transformed into a masquerade ballroom. The entrance featured an archway in pink and beige, adorned with tulle and miniature lights. It led to a black and white checkered walkway - lined with torch likenesses draped in tulle - enabling couples to make a grand entrance. Pillars were wrapped in tulle and mini lights, each featuring a giant mask replica in dramatic black. Along the wall were mini masks in black and pink, adorned with glitter and featuring names of each couple. In addition to those souvenirs, couples received masquerade mask keepsakes.

Attendees - about 150 - began arriving around 8:30 p.m. for BHS Junior/Senior Prom 2014. After a choreographed dance featuring the prom court, Rachel Fulks and Travis Kirtner were crowned prom queen and king, respectively. Members of the prom court - all BHS seniors - were selected by vote among the senior class. Besides Fulks, queen candidates were Taylor Eastlack, Delaney Marsh, London Oliverio, Alaina Shreves, Rebecca Turnbull, Lindsay Veltri and Lauren Wickenhofer. Joining Kirtner as king candidates were Zach Boles, Anthony Bonamico, AC Caldera, Troy Lowther, Justin Richter, Ryan Sprouse and Tre Trecost. The king and queen were chosen by random at the dance.

When the dancing ended at 11:30 p.m., several couples moved on to Buffalo Wild Wings at  Charles Pointe, where after-prom activities were hosted by junior class parents. Through 2 a.m., kids enjoyed BDub signature finger foods, played games and took part in prize drawings, including those for concert tickets and VIP passes, an Xbox game system, laptop computer and many others.

The prom is hosted annually by the junior class and is attended by juniors and seniors. Bridgeport High School Student Council heads up the effort. Taking the lead this year was Amanda Saymon with Mrs. Deanna Garrett serving as faculty sponsor.
