It's a Nutcracker Year for Annabel Timms School of Ballet

It's a Nutcracker year for Annabel Timms School of Ballet.

Every other year, the studio presents "The Nutcracker," which has become a tradition for dance students and community members alike. This year, the scaled down version of the holiday ballet will be performed Nov. 29 and 30 at the Bridgeport High School auditorium.

Although shortened to make it more appropriate for younger dancers, the entire storyline is included,” said Annabel Timms.

The studio's version of Tchaikovsky’s Christmas classic features the sugar plum fairy, snow queen, mouse king and all the other dancing characters, including the production’s signature role.

It’s Bridgeport High School senior Kylie Frame who will be portraying Nutcracker. Her sister, BHS freshman Taylor Frame, is playing Clara.

Other key cast members include Madelyn Aloi as the Sugar Plum Fairy, Katie Mossburg as the Arabian Princess, Emily Trickett as the Snow Queen and Maggie Lohmann as the Mouse King.

Bringing the role of Herr Drosselmeyer to life is Albert Altovilla, a New York City-based actor who instructs hip-hop, jazz and contemporary dance classes at the studio. It was Altovilla who starred in the title role in the studio’s 1997 debut production.

Obliging in the role of Clara and Fritz’s mother is Cindy Timms Pulice. The dance instructor said it will be fun to step back into the holiday ballet, which was first performed in 1997 and has become a special tradition of the studio which she and her mom Annabel Timms operate.

“The kids really do look forward to it year after year,” Pulice said. “It’s funny because during rehearsals, the older girls remember the choreography of dances they did when they were little girls.”

The adapted version of the classic ballet is an ideal one in which to showcase various levels of dance. Many students of the dance studio have played multiple roles through the years.

Such is the case with Pulice’s daughter Chiara – now a West Virginia University sophomore – who grew up with the show.

“She said it seems more like Christmas in a year we do ‘The Nutcracker,’” Pulice said.

The show will be presented 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29 and 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30. Tickets, $10 for adults and $5 for students, will be available for purchase at the door.

Opening will be students of Pam’s Musical Studio, performing an array of holiday tunes.
