Missoula Children's Theater Auditions Monday for "Blackbeard the Pirate"

By Trina Runner on November 15, 2014 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

For nine years, the Missoula Children’s Theatre has traveled to Bridgeport to feature local children in well-known plays.  The performances have been memorable and have proved to be stepping-stones for several of the actors, as they get more involved with theater in middle school and high school.

This year, “Blackbeard The Pirate” will be presented. The group plans on casting 50-60 students, with auditions on November 17 from 4-6p.m.  All students K-12 are invited to audition and no advanced preparation is necessary.  The show will rehearse Monday through Friday, with a dress rehearsal on Saturday.  Two shows will be performed, with $10 tickets available at the door.

The Missoula Tour Team comes into Bridgeport with scripts, sets and costumes. The venue, music and actors are all found locally.

Judy Gerwig, who teaches at Heritage Christian School, has provided the music for almost all the shows, and Bridgeport High School provides the theater each year.  The program costs more than $3,000 to bring to our area, and sponsors are needed to off-set the costs.  Each student must pay $20 to participate in the program.

The Missoula Children’s Theatre has been touring for more than 40 years, inspiring creativity and teamwork through the theatrical process. The program was brought to our area after Michelle Skaggs and her sister-in-law Lynn Davis saw a play performed in Parkersburg. They contacted sponsors, arranged for auditions, and the program has been going strong for the last nine years, entertaining audiences with the talent of young performers from our area.
