More Movies Coming to Robinson Grand Performing Arts Center Including Sunday Presentation of "Frozen"

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on February 02, 2019 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

After a whirlwind of a holiday season at the Robinson Grand Performing Arts Center, the management staff has decided to make some changes in 2019 particularly concerning their movies which have been selling out at almost every screening in the past couple months. Patrons rejoiced over the success of The Polar Express, White Christmas, and Harry Potter & the Sorcerer’s Stone, but just as many patrons expressed their regret at not being able to get tickets.

The near 900-member crowd sizes and general admission seating has had patrons lining up as early as two hours prior to the start of a movie even in contrary weather conditions. Other lines begin to form in concessions as large waves of patrons enter the theatre all at once. To address these issues, the team has made a big change.

“We are excited to announce reserved seating for all of our newly added movies. This change will help make patron seating much easier and allow each guest to select their seat ahead of time,” states Ryan Tolley, Executive Director. “With this change, we will also be slightly raising our movie ticket prices, from $6.50 to $7 per ticket. The price increase will allow us to offer reserved seating which eliminates the need for early arrival and wait lines prior to doors.”

Operations Manager, Bobby Rexroad explains, “We have observed a much better pace at our concessions during events with reserved seating. When patrons know their seats are saved, they're free to get refreshments at their leisure, as opposed to coming in and heading to concessions right away.”

One thing that won’t change is the theatre’s pre-show interaction and specialty offerings that are customized to each event. For Disney’s Frozen on Sunday, February 3rd at 3 p.m., guests are getting a Princess Meet & Greet complete with pictures and “princess hugs.”

The SOLD OUT screening of Gone with the Wind will also have a Character Meet & Greet with Scarlett O’Hara, but this film is the last of the theatre’s general admission offerings in 2019. All other films being added from this point forward will be reserved seating.

After the success of the first screening of the Harry Potter series, Sales & Marketing Manager, Emily Moore has some exciting news. “We will be adding the entire original Harry Potter collection to our schedule. Potter fans can expect way more butterbeer and other pre-show interactions that will vary from event to event. We’ve spread them out on our calendar to give our audiences time in between films and make a real series out of it.”

In addition to the Harry Potter series, patrons will see the acclaimed drama Fences starring Denzel Washington and Viola Davis (who won an Oscar and a Golden Globe for her role)chosen to compliment Black History Month. Fences is scheduled for Friday, February 22nd at 7:00pm.

Another classic film will join the ranks on Sunday, April 14th at 3:00pm as the 1956 American epic religious drama The Ten Commandments will hit the big screen just before Easter. Starring Charlton Heston as Moses, the film is the sixth highest grossing film of all time in the United States and Canada.
