Paint for a Cure: Superhero Paint Class to Benefit Gavin Morris Fund to Cure Neuroblastoma

Tosha Morris invites members of the public to grab a paintbrush and tap into their compassion in a creative way.

A fundraiser for the Gavin Morris Fund to Cure Neuroblastoma will be held Saturday evening at The Starving Artist in downtown Clarksburg. Attendees will paint a superhero collage (pictured) in honor of 4-year-old Gavin Morris – who through a display of bravery and strength while fighting stage IV neuroblastoma – became a real life superhero to thousands.

The cost per person is $45, which includes all painting supplies and refreshments, as well as a $20 donation to the Gavin Strong Fund for Neuroblastoma Research via Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. After Gavin’s March death, Morris set out on a mission to free children from cancer by declaring a personal fundraising goal of $1 million.

“I encourage people to sign up to support a cause bigger than ‘Gavin Strong.’ This is to provide funding for better treatments and eventually a cure for Neuroblastoma via The Gavin strong fund with Alex's  Lemonade Stand Foundation,” she said.

The event - which The Starving Artist business was gracious to sponsor - is also a chance to cut loose, enjoy friends and family and get to know people in the community by joining the cause, Morris said.

“What a blessed opportunity this is to rally together and make a difference,” she said.

This particular fundraiser is dear to Morris’s heart because painting was one of Gavin’s passions, she said.

“It was an escape for him and many other children in the hospital,” she said.  “Also, that is the area Chad and I lived in and a lot of family lives close by. To be able to bring a sense of fellowship to the area, in memory of my little hero, is an honor."

All ages are welcome and each paid participant will leave with a 16x20” canvas painting. Social hour begins at 6 p.m. and painting at 7 p.m. A local band will be on hand. The event is expected to last through about 9:30 p.m. No previous painting experience is necessary. Step-by-step instruction will be provided.
