Straight Superior Ratings for Bridgeport Middle School Band in Region 10 Band Festival

By Trina Runner on April 24, 2016 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Under the direction of Eric Stoneking, the Bridgeport Middle School Band scored straight Superior ratings at the Region 10 Band Festival held on April 15.  The festival is one of ten such events around the state that are designed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the band directors and showcase the middle school and high school bands of West Virginia.

Each year, Band Directors choose musical selections from the West Virginia Band Masters Graded Music List.  They can choose the level of difficulty, which is graded from easiest to hardest, with 1 being the easiest.  After performing two of these selections, the band is evaluated by three adjudicators, where they can receive ratings of I (Superior) to V (Poor).   Both Bridgeport High School and Bridgeport Middle School scored all Superior ratings.

Selecting “Jubilance” and “Fields of Kent” for the BMS Band to perform, Stoneking was able to demonstrate the students’ proficiency while entertaining a small crowd of onlookers.  Former band director Michael Ford has been the director of the Region 10 Band Festival for 32 years and is thrilled with the participation this year.
