Thanks to Communty, After-Prom Party Shaping Up to be Quality Mardi Gras Event

Bridgeport High School upperclassmen will be stepping out in style Saturday night as the annual junior/senior prom takes place at Village Square Conference Center.

When the dance party comes to an end, an after party - hosted by the junior class parents and continuing the Mardi Gras theme - will be held at Buffalo Wild Wings at Charles Pointe.

“We’re having the party from 12 midnight until 2 a.m.,” said Beth Saymon, organizer. “We’ll have all kinds of Mardi Gras decorations and the local community has been fantastic with donations so we’ll have a lot of really neat prizes for kids this year.”

The way it works, Saymon said, is that attendees play games, accumulating tickets toward prizes of their choice. In addition, door prizes – for which everyone has equal chances – will be awarded.

Up for grabs are an iPad Mini, an iPad Air, a flat-screen TV, Xbox game system, GoPro camera, luggage, restaurant gift cards, tickets to Pirates games and concerts, as well as Visa gift cards.

For the cost of $5, students can attend the after activities. Tickets will be sold this week at school. Parent permission must be obtained for attendance.

The whole point of after prom is providing a fun, safe environment for continuing the evening’s celebration, Saymon said.

“It’s the prom promise – giving the kids a drug- and alcohol-free venue to continue prom night,” she said. “I have just been amazed at how generous our business community has been in supporting an activity which the school, the kids and parents think is a worthwhile effort. Also, Buffalo Wild Wings has been wonderful to work with. They are pretty much letting us take over their restaurant and providing food and a DJ.”

On the menu will be the basics, including wings, sliders and drinks with the junior moms providing dessert choices.
