Last Friday, you may have noticed a few farm animals entering the high school early in the morning. The Bridgeport FFA Chapter held their second annual Project RED (Rural Education Day). They started their day early in the morning, bringing a variety of animals into the school. Shortly after, third graders from Simpson and Johnson came to the high school where FFA members taught them about agriculture.

 

The students had 10 stations set up throughout the school, each focusing on a different agricultural topic. The chapter had a horse, cattle, goat, chicken, and pig station, where they allowed the third graders to interact with the animals throughout the lesson. They also had a ribbon testing station where the third graders got to learn about and test different types of soil. Another big hit this year was the planting station where the third graders got to plant their own sunflower seed to take home! The chapter also had a butterfly station, a milking competition station, and story book station set up within the school.

 

 In the afternoon, the chapter welcomed the BMS eighth graders into the school to share the agricultural and FFA opportunities the high school offers. The chapter members led the eighth graders through the same stations but shared more about their experiences in agriculture classes as well as in FFA. The chapter hopes that this will help recruit more members for the upcoming year.
