Time Travel: Rewinding 46 Years to Visit the BHS Cheer Squad and Nutter Fort's Melvin's Key Market

By Dick Duez on February 07, 2016 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

This weekend's photos are both courtesy of our friend Mrs. Alice Rowe and they come from the 1970 edition of the Ki-Cu-Wa Yearbook. It should be noted that it was the first yearbook of more than four decades worth that Rowe has been involved with - and continues to be involved with - at the school. See any ladies you know above that were members of the Bridgeport varsity cheerleading squad from 1969-70? As you can see, the squad was much smaller in numbers.

Many from Harrison County and beyond may remember this former Nutter Fort (listed as Clarksburg in the yearbook) business - Melvin's Key Market, which was owned and operated by Melvin Romano and, according to the yearbook ad where this was featured, was on 1402 Buckhannon Pike. Does anyone remember the store and when it went out of business? If so, please feel free to comment below.

Editor's Note: This ongoing photo feature of pictures from Bridgeport and throughout the Mountain State is part of local historian Richard "Dick" Duez's collection. Duez, the unofficial historian of Bridgeport, would appreciate any scanned photos emailed to him for use here or to include in his ongoing efforts to preserve local history. You can email photos, or let him know how to acquire copies of photos you may have in your possession, to Duez at dick.do@frontier.com.
