BUMC Creates New Opportunity for Women of All Faiths

The Bridgeport United Methodist Church is redefining “Girls Night Out.”  The new L.I.F.T. (Ladies In Fellowship Together) group met for the first time on May 8 at the Mattingly property.  Rather than engaging in a traditional Bible study, L.I.F.T., as the name implies, is about lifting up other women in their daily lives.

Leaders Regina Miller and Carol Ford felt led to start then new concentric circle ministry and, as they were planning it, the song, “Lift Me Up” came on the radio.  “I knew right then that’s what this ministry needed to be about,” said Ford.  “No matter where we are in our walk of faith, fellowship provides us great strength.  Being around other women of faith gives us a chance to learn and grow in our faith.  Women need other women to help us draw closer to God and feed our faith.”

The new ministry will meet quarterly and will be open to all women in the community, regardless of denomination.  The first meeting was themed, “Girlfriends Sharing Goodies.”  Held outside, the women brought their favorite dishes, along with recipes to share.  Eating, talking, singing, laughing and sharing God’s word were all part of the evening’s event.

“Being able to enjoy a night of fellowship in a beautiful setting is one way to overcome all the negativity the world sometimes lays on us,” said Ford.  “We encourage everyone to join us for the next event, where we will be traveling to Lancaster County, PA to see a production of Joseph at the Sight and Sound Theater.”  Anyone interested can contact Ford at bford001@ma.rr.com.
