Pint-sized church members are sometimes lost in the shuffle of “important” church business. With countless passages in the Bible referring to how important the children are, one local church has decided to add a “Junior Circle” to groups dedicated to learning and growing in Christ.

The new Jordan River Circle is open to those aged 7-12, with the first official meeting being tomorrow (Feb. 15) from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

“We will be making cupcakes, playing games and doing a Bible study,” said organizer Regina Miller.

Each meeting, there will be opportunities for the children to grow spiritually while being involved with fun activities.

“We are excited about adding this younger group to our circles already active at the church. We want all ages to get involved with the mission of the church and with the community as a whole,"  she said.

The organizers have already had a couple of meetings to determine the direction that the children and their parents would like to go with the group.

“We are looking at visiting nursing homes, singing performances, helping with the annual church rummage sale and assisting with the mother and child tea this year," said Miller. "Additionally, we will of course focus on devotions, scripture and teaching the girls how to pray.”

The circle is open to anyone in the community and offers a wonderful opportunity to begin a habit of service that will last a lifetime.

“The circle will have reciprocal blessings as the older members of the church mentor the younger ones and the younger girls bless us with their talents, humor and ideas,” said Miller.  “It’s so important to reach out at a young age in order to plant the seed of their potential as part of the church and community.”

Anyone interested in becoming involved with the Jordan River Circle can contact Bridgeport United Methodist Church.  The cupcake making event will be held at the church on Sunday, Feb. 15 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
