Morgantown - Avery United Methodist Church is to host the opera “Amahl and the Night Visitors” this weekend.

Bridgeport’s Wesley Cotter will join nearly 30 other cast members in his role as Amahl, in the story of a poor young disabled boy’s encounter with three wise and mysterious men on their way to see the newborn king.  Although Wesley has performed in several productions, this is his first opera.

“I love it!” he said. “It is so fun working with so many great people. The Kings are amazing and Rebecca Cobb, my on-stage mother, has been very helpful.”

The opera composed by Gian Carl Menotti will be produced by Ken Godwin, director of music at Avery United Methodist Church.  This opera has played to audiences around the globe, making it one of the most memorable holiday stories set to music.

There are three shows scheduled for this weekend at the Avery United Methodist Church in Morgantown.  Friday and Saturday at 7:30 pm and Sunday at 2 pm.  Admission is free and large groups are welcome.
