City Faces in Different Places

By Michelle Duez on March 01, 2015 from City Faces via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Bridgeport is abundant with hard working families.  Patti and her husband volunteer in the community and both work in service professions.  Please take a moment to meet my friend Patti Cook

How long have you lived in Bridgeport? Patti has lived in Bridgeport for 17 years.

Where are you originally from? Patti is originally from Eleanor, WV (the cleanest town in WV as declared by A. James Manchin), located in Putnam County.  She graduated from Buffalo (Putnam) High School in 1993.  She also attended Marshall University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing in May of 1998.

Are you married? Yes, she is married to Brian Cook.  They were high school sweethearts and have been married for 17 years.  She and Brian  were married on June 27, 1998  at Winfield Baptist Church in Winfield.  They started dating in high school when Patti was a sophomore and Brian a senior.   Brian graduated from Buffalo (Putnam) High School in 1991.  He attended WV State College and obtained his degree in Criminal Justice.  He is now a police officer for the FBI.

Children? Patti and Brian have two girls. Laiken is an eighth grader at Bridgeport Middle School and Maci is fifth grader at Simpson Elementary.

What is your favorite color? She really doesn’t have a favorite color, she likes anything bright and cheerful.

Where do you work? Patti is a Registered Nurse at United Hospital Center.  She works on 4 North, which is designated as a pediatric unit, but they care for patients of all ages.  She loves nursing and truly feels it was her calling.

Favorite Bridgeport spot? Deegan and Hinkle Lakes – She enjoys walking the trail at the lake, fishing, and letting their dog run at the dog park with her family.

Favorite WV spot outside of Bridgeport? Canaan Valley is their favorite WV spot outside of Bridgeport.  There are so many things to do at any time of the year.  They enjoy skiing and snow tubing during the winter.  During the summer, we love the hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding the area has to offer.

Favorite place outside of WV? Hatteras Island, North Carolina.  They have fallen in love with the laid back, quiet, family oriented atmosphere of Hatteras.  It feels like a home away from home!  She and Brian hope to retire there someday!

Favorite restaurant? One thing she loves about the Bridgeport/Clarksburg area is all of the family owned restaurants.  There are so many that she and her family enjoy visiting.  She has a hard time picking just one favorite.  She said it often comes down to what they are in the mood for that day.

Best childhood memory?  Her best childhood memory would be the time during the summer that she spent at her grandparent’s homes with cousins.  Her grandparents could make a drive in the country or hike in the woods fun and eventful.  There was always an adventure.

Favorite musical group? Her favorite musical group is Motley Crue—hands down!

Pets? One dog named Ca$h, named after the late Johnny Cash by his previous owner.  He is a Schnoodle they adopted three years ago.  He is a perfect addition to their family!

Hobbies? Her hobbies, at this point in her life, include traveling to watch her daughters participate in soccer, softball, and academic related activities.  She enjoys being involved with school functions that benefit the kids.

Interesting fact about you? When Patti was a freshman in high school, her dance instructor took her and four other dance students to a dance seminar in North Carolina.   They were taught by one of Michael Jackson’s Choreographers.  The instructor actually choreographed and danced in the video  “Smooth Criminals”.
