City Faces in Different Places

By Julie Perine on September 20, 2020 from City Faces via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Meet this week's Bridgeport City Face, Abby Veigel, chair of The Health Games Team Bridgeport, holistic health coach and much more! Meet her here:

How long have you lived in Bridgeport? If not a lifelong resident, tell me what brought you here.

My family and I have lived in Bridgeport for 3 ½ years. I was born and raised in Canton, Ohio and lived in Pittsburgh for 11 years prior to moving to Bridgeport. My husband's job in the oil and gas industry brought us to Bridgeport, but we definitely feel this is where God intended for us to plant roots and raise our kids.

Are you married, have kids? Tell me about your family.

I have been married to my high school sweetheart Bill for 15 years and we have 2 beautiful girls, Addison age 12 and Annie age 9. Addison is a 7th grader at BMS and Annie is in 4th grade at Simpson Elementary.

What about pets?
We have a mini golden doodle who is 1 year old and who runs our household.

Where do you work and what do you do there?
I work for the Michael Late Benedum Chapter (MLBC) as an Executive Assistant and am also a holistic health coach. I love helping others find energy and feel their best to be able to live out their God-given purpose.

What are your hobbies/favorite past times?
I love staying active by running or working out. When I have a few quiet minutes, I also love reading or spending time with friends.

Favorite Bridgeport spot?
Definitely Hinkle and Deegan lakes. I love running there, but also just love that I get to drive past them every day. They bring so much peace to me. I also love evenings at City Park watching my girls play softball. I love that you can see so many friendly faces and just the vibe that comes from families spending time there together.

What do you like about Bridgeport … why is this a good place to live?
For the first year I lived here, I kept saying “This town has the nicest people.” I think people got tired of me saying it. I love the close-knit community. There are so many people invested in the wellbeing of my kids here and I love the importance and value on friendships and integrity. Coming from Pittsburgh and schools that have 4000+ students, it’s nice to live in a town where “everyone knows your name”. We are also blessed with the best neighbors who are truly like family to us.

One – or more – of your favorite memories of something that took place in Bridgeport ...
Our first Light up Night will always be so special to us. Also, this past April we had a COVID- Birthday scavenger hunt for our youngest daughter and over 50 community members participated (some she barely knew) to make her day special. Our hearts were definitely full after that day!

What is your favorite WV spot outside of Bridgeport?
Our family loves visiting Snowshoe when possible. I also love the energy that comes from being on campus at WVU for sporting events

How about your favorite place outside of WV?
Hands down..Disney World. We love visiting the Happiest Place on Earth. We also love vacationing at Wild Dunes in Isle of Palms, SC.

What are some of your favorite things?
Quiet mornings with Jesus and hot coffee, running with friends, Fall weather, gift giving (it’s my love language), being a Mom and Target.

Food/restaurant? Tacos are my 2nd love language and my family loves dining at Mountain State Brewery; 3 out of the 4 of us have Celiac disease so we appreciate their variety of gluten-free options.

Favorite color? Teal

Music genre/artist? Ed Sheeran and Pink are my favorite artists, but I also love country and Christian music.

What is your best childhood memory?
Vacations at Norris Lake with my grandparents. I love being on the water and water skiing, wake boarding and tubing!

Interesting fact about you and/or something you would like to add…
It’s on my bucket list to write a book someday. I even have a title. I love studying enneagrams (I’m a 3 w 2 ?? ) and I can usually guess a person’s blood type before they tell me by their personality!

I have recently been given the honor of being the point person for a new health initiative called The Health Games put on by Healthy Harrison. It has been so fun working with other community members to bring an end to obesity in our area. We have been tasked with coming up with a plan for Bridgeport and hopefully our plan wins the ultimate prize $100K in cash and resources for our community.
