City Faces in Different Places

By Julie Perine on November 14, 2021 from City Faces via Connect-Bridgeport.com

This week's Bridgeport City Face is Sharon Nutter Werdebaugh. Meet her here!

How long have you lived in Bridgeport? If not a lifelong resident, tell me what brought you here.
Born and raised on Brushy Fork Rd, on family farm (beef cattle), spending half my time with my grandparents who ran the farm and half with my parents…my dad was an over-the-road truck driver and weekend warrior with the Army National Guard. I lived here nearly all my life, only leaving to attend school at Marshall University for my undergrad and left again in 2008-09 when I relocated to Northern VA.

Tell me about your family.
I am married to Scott Werdebaugh. We will be celebrating our 12th wedding anniversary in February. I have my two children, Mariah (age 22 currently resides in Morgantown as a student) and Wesley (20) who resides in Bridgeport and is a licensed insurance agent with Allstate. Scott’s son, Domonick (25), lives in Tampa, FL and we travel to see him as often as we can and our other son, TJ Werdebaugh, passed away in 2016 at the age of 20. I also have a stepdaughter and 2 grandbabies that live in the DC area from my late husband that passed in 2009.

What about pets?
One fur baby, Marco, named after the mascot of Marshall University. He is a very large, fluffy silver kitty.

Where do you work and what do you do there? I am the Founder and COO of Your Talent Team (www.YourTalentTeam.com). We are a professional recruiting agency and executive headhunting firm. We also facilitate teambuilding sessions for groups/organizations/companies all across the country teaching others about temperament and intrinsic values and how those affect the way we communication, process information, how we work and how we show and feel respect.

Scott and I, along with our business partner, own the Square at Bridgeport. We love that we’ve been able to update the area and bring in some new businesses.

What are your hobbies/favorite past times? I love traveling with family and friends. Some of my favorite places are the Outerbanks, Hilton Head, Niagara Falls Canada, St. Pete, FL, and definitely Spain. But I also just love quiet little getaways off the grid in a beautiful cabin and a fire.

Favorite Bridgeport spot? Hinkle and Deegan Lakes…I grew up on Brushy Fork, so being near there just feels like home. It is absolutely beautiful there any time of the year. My husband and I enjoy evening walks on the trail and seeing many friendly faces from around Bridgeport.

What do you like about Bridgeport … why is this a good place to live? Bridgeport is a great place to raise a family. We all watch out for one another, and we genuinely care about the families that live here. We watch out for one another’s children. We congregate at football games on a chilly Friday night. We spend time together at food truck festivals and light up night. We support one another in times of need; I know the community was definitely there for us when our family suffered a tragic loss. This is what we do!

One – or more – of your favorite memories of something that took place in Bridgeport ...
I loved growing up and going up to the airport and watching the planes take off. And when I was little they did flights for a penny a pound just to fly around Bridgeport. I think that is probably where I started to love aviation and aerospace.

I also have very fond memories of the sand volleyball courts at the city pool; they were located about where the waterpark part of the pool is. I spent most nights down there during high school, just having fun with friends and playing in tournaments.

What is your favorite place outside of WV? Definitely Corolla in the Outerbanks

What are some of your favorite things? I love scrapbooking, cooking and trying to replicate our favorites from restaurants we travel to; I love watching college and NFL football with my husband. My teams are Marshall, WVU, Alabama (going there in a couple of weeks for a game and hopefully to meet Nick Saban); NFL: Washington Redskins/WFT and New Orleans Saints

Music genre/artist? I have a very eclectic playlist that most people couldn’t understand. Dr. Dre. Reba. Ozzy. Tanya Tucker. Salt ‘n Peppa. Lynyrd Skynyrd. Metallica. Snoop Dog. Trace Adkins. Eminem. Chris Stapleton. And some of my favorites are the old hymns I grew up on at Trinity United Methodist church.

What is your best childhood memory? Any memory of being on the farm. I loved being my Papaw’s little helper. And I dearly loved riding in my Daddy’s 18-wheeler.

Interesting fact about you and/or something you would like to add…
