First it was featured on Supermarket Sweep, then on Guys Grocery Games, and now it will take place at the Eastpointe Kroger Store. The GFWC Bridgeport Junior Woman’s Club and Kroger are partnering for a two-minute Grocery Grab fundraiser with proceeds benefitting the Harrison County Backpack Program.

There are over 9,000 people in Harrison County who are considered food insecure, with nearly 3,000 being children.  The GFWC WC Special Project for 2016-18 is “Feed Our Future” and locally, the international organization has chosen to help provide food and resources to the Harrison County Backpack Program, which sends meals home with students whose families are considered food insecure.

Since 1949, the Bridgeport Junior Woman’s Club has been dedicated to community improvement by enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service.  With nearly twenty percent of children in need of basic food in Harrison County, the organization partnered with Kroger, whose number one mission is to feed the hungry.

“We work with local food banks and non-profit organizations, donating the equivalent of three million meals every week,” said Allison McGee, spokesperson for Kroger’s Mid-Atlantic Division.  “We are delighted to support the work of the Bridgeport Junior Woman’s Club in their effort to fight hunger in Harrison County.”

To increase awareness of the fight against hunger, the Bridgeport Junior Woman’s Club is currently selling tickets to win a two-minute Grocery Grab at Kroger, located on Emily Drive.  One ticket is $5 or five tickets for $20, with all proceeds benefitting the Harrison County Backpack Program.

Ten semi-finalists will be randomly selected from prior ticket sales and notified on November 3.  Each of the semi-finalists must be present at 8:30a.m. on November 10th at Kroger for the final drawing, where the rule sheet and waiver must be signed.

The grand prize winner will win a two-minute grocery shopping spree and the nine semi-finalists will each receive an alternate prize.

Tickets are available at the Benedum Civic Center or by contacting any Junior.  Details are listed on www.bridgeportjuniors.com and email inquiries can be directed to bridgeportjuniors@gmail.com.
