The Bridgeport Lions Club held its monthly meeting Thursday, July 19, at the Benedum Civic Center. In the absence of President Robin Faris, Lion Jim Harki was acting president and conducted the meeting. Guest speakers were Fallyn Swiger, the club’s 2018 representative to American Legion Auxiliary Rhododendron Girls State, and Jacob Perine, the club’s 2018 Bridgeport High School scholarship recipient.

A senior at BHS, Swiger reported to the club about
her experience at Girls State, held June 10-15 at Davis & Elkins College. Selected and sponsored by various organizations, more than 300 female rising high school seniors from across the state attended, learning about America, its government and citizenship. Swiger expressed her appreciation to the club for the
opportunity and the experience. She is the daughter of Alicia and Bubby Swiger.

A 2018 BHS graduate, Perine was awarded the club's annual college scholarship at the BHS Senior Awards Assembly in May. He shared that he will use his scholarship dollars to pursue an education in wildlife and fisheries at West Virginia University and told some stories about his lifetime interest in hunting and fishing. Perine thanked the club for the scholarship and for its work in the community. He is the son of Julie and Jeff Perine.

Lion Diana Bedell received an award as newsletter publisher for the club.
