By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on September 17, 2014 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

The weather is cooperating; so are units for tonight’s annual Bridgeport High School Homecoming Parade. Dozens are units, including the BHS Marching Band, BHS Homecoming Court members and class floats will proceed up Philadelphia Avenue (from Main Street) onto Johnson Avenue and ending at BHS.

Parade start time is 6 p.m. Most units are assembling on Philadelphia Avenue around 5 p.m.  Those who want to watch can line Philadelphia and Johnson avenues. The BHS Key Club will be collecting canned food items to benefit Shepherd’s Corner. Have your items ready for pick-up along the parade route. Children should bring a bag or bucket for collecting candy from parade participants.

Bridgeport Police Department has advised that Philadelphia Avenue (from Main to Center streets) will be closed to traffic beginning at 5 p.m. and, of course, the parade route will be closed to traffic between 6 and 6:30 p.m.

Among others to be represented in tonight’s procession are high school and youth athletic and dance teams, civic groups, area businesses, Benedum Festival royalty and the BHS Alumni Band.

The parade is always one of the highlights of Homecoming week, which continues Thursday with the BHS Homecoming Assembly and Friday with a football game against rival Robert C. Byrd High School. The BHS Homecoming Dance is Saturday night at the school, which will be decorated for the occasion in accordance with this year’s theme “Welcome to the Jungle.”
