April is Federation Month so our meeting had several activities that are a part of that observance.  Our guest speaker was the new GFWC (General Federation of Women's Clubs) West Virginia President, Jody Cunningham of Williamstown, WV.  She was accompanied by the GFWC WV President-Elect, Sharon Sheridan, of Parkersburg.  GFWC is the largest volunteer women's organization dedicated to community service in the world.

 

The winners of the Youth Creative Writing contest sponsored by the Arts committee of the club were in attendance to receive their awards.  Each winner received a certificate and a cash award.  Karen Lang, Arts co-chairman, announced the winners and GFWC WV President Jody Cunningham presented them with their awards.  All first-place winners were entered into competition on the state level.  First place winners at that level have been entered into national competition held during June at the GFWC national convention. Students competed by writing a short story or a poem.

 

The newest member of the Bridgeport club was inducted at the meeting.  GFWC WV President-elect Sharon Sheridan conducted the ceremony and presented a membership pin to Betty Henderson along with a red rose, the Federation flower.  She also presented Vickie Murphy a red rose as Betty's sponsor. 

 

GFWC WV President Jody Cunningham also recognized Bridgeport's newest 50-year member, Connie Moore.  Connie has been active in all facets of the clubs activities, but is especially fond of the arts, both vocal and theater.  She has served as club president twice, and is also a past president of the GFWC WV North Central District.
