Harry Green Chevrolet will be a Corvette showcase this Sunday as the Central West Virginia Corvette Club holds its 38th annual show.

“It’s free to the public and it’s a good time for anyone who loves cars,” said Bob Krammer, club vice president. “So come out and see the Corvettes – rain or shine – we’ll be there.”

In addition to competition in various categories, such as best interior, best exterior, participants’ choice and Harry Greens’ choice, there will be classics on display.

“All series – C1 through C7 – of Corvettes made in 1955, ’65, ’75, ’85, ’95 and 2005 will be inside for display,” Krammer said. “And some members will have cars for sale as some are upgrading or downsizing.”

All Corvette owners are invited to participate and it’s not too late to register.

“Registration will be Sunday, around 9 a.m. and the show should be over by about 3 p.m.,” Krammer said.

Registration fee is $20. Attendees can also enjoy music, food and other activities.

“A DJ will be there, as well as T & L Hotdogs,” Krammer said. “We’ll also have a Chinese auction, door prizes and a lot of other fun.”

Among the club’s approximate 90 members is Mike Miller of Maple Lake. A member of the Bridgeport High School class of 1965, Miller said he left the area in 1985 to work in the DC area and returned to Bridgeport in 2006.

“I guess I joined the club in 2008 or 2009,” he said.

Miller said he has owned Corvettes since 1979. That light blue automatic was sold years ago, but he presently takes pride in a trio of Corvettes including a 2009 C06 jet stream blue metallic model.

Miller said his interest in the club isn’t just about showing his cars, but about networking with others who have similar interests.

“I like being around other people who like cars. To me, that’s the most important thing,” he said. “All of these people work on their cars so it’s a good forum and a resource for problem shooting and problem solving. It’s a good bunch of people who support local charities and also do social runs, like take your Corvette to lunch or dinner. In the spring and fall, we do runs in all kinds of scenic places.”

Many of the Corvette owners Miller runs into at events are friends from his days at BHS.

“All my friends grew up to be car guys,” he said. “A lot of us still run together and see each other at car shows.”

Krammer said he has been a member of Central West Virginia Corvette Club for about 22 years.

“I like cars. I like working on them and driving them, so it’s just fun. It’s really my escape. If I’m having a bad day, I just get in my car and go,” he said.

That car is a 2001 pewter metallic six-speed.

Krammer said some of the club’s events, including the upcoming T & L Cruise at Rosebud Plaza, draw thousands of vehicles. He expects about 60 for Sunday’s show at Harry Green Chevrolet, located on Old Bridgeport Hill. The Central West Virginia Corvette Club is a member of the National Council of Corvette Clubs' East Ohio Region. Meetings are held 7:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month at Harry Green Chevrolet.
