By Trina Runner on September 13, 2014 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

This Wednesday, when you are packing up the chairs for the 2014 Homecoming Parade, throw in a couple of canned goods and make a big difference in the community.  During the parade, BHS Key Club will have a float that will be collecting canned goods all along the parade route.  Collectors will be wearing red Key Club shirts and all donations will be given to Shepherd’s Corner.

“Each year we try to outdo the number of cans we collect along the route,” said Key Club Advisor Kathy Cox.  “The people at Shepherd’s Corner are so appreciative, especially since donations are down this time of year.”

They BHS Key Club will also be face painting at today’s Family Fair and Expo.  “It’s very important for us to give back to the community and we are excited about being involved this year,” said WV Key Club Governor Mallory Rinker.  Rinker will be joining other members of the club as they travel to Charleston for the Fall Rally in November.  The event features two days of teambuilding and leadership workshops that inspire fresh ideas for Key Club member to take back to their own communities.

Key Club is the world’s largest student led community service organization, boasting nearly 260,000 students.  Known for service projects with Unicef, March of Dimes, and Children’s Miracle Network, the group also has a substantial impact on the local community.  BHS Key Clubbers spend each Wednesday volunteering with the residents of Meadowview Manor and are actively involved with the Kiwanis Club.
