Where there is a community service opportunity in Harrison County, you will likely encounter Elizabeth McDow.  Long before she became Mrs. Harrison County, she was dedicated to advocating for those who suffer from hunger, injustice or illiteracy. 

 

As the current co-president of GFWC Bridgeport Junior Woman’s Club, she has actively participated in the groups mission to provide food for food-insecure youth of Harrison County and she is a board member and volunteer for Literacy Volunteers of Harrison County.  Additionally, she is a member of 100+ Women Who Care and also advocates for educational and charitable causes whenever possible.

 

As Mrs. Harrison County, McDow will be traveling to Charleston on March 23 to compete for Mrs. West Virginia.  Pageant organizers have partnered with the Mrs. America national campaign platform, Victoria’s Voice, which focuses on raising awareness of substance abuse. 

 

From now until March 20, voting will be open for the People’s Choice Award for the Mrs. West Virginia Pageant.  For $2, anyone can vote online and pay through PayPal.  Half of the funds raised will go to support Victoria’s Choice and the other half will go toward the charity of the participant’s choice.

 

McDow has chosen GFWC Bridgeport Junior Woman’s Club for her charity of choice.

 

“Throughout my years of service with the GFWC Bridgeport Junior Woman’s Club, I have had the opportunity to help countless individuals and causes,” said McDow.  “We have prepared food for thousands of Harrison County youth through the food pantry and backpack programs and continue to find ways to support charitable causes in Harrison County.  I would very much appreciate votes for the People’s Choice Award in order to raise additional funds for two great organizations, with the money raised for the Juniors going directly back into Harrison County.”
