College View: If You're Stressed Out, I've Got One Word - OneWord.com

By Lacey Palmer on June 25, 2012 from College View via Connect-Bridgeport.com

I’m often full of scattered thoughts – lists of things to do, new things to try, quotes – more or less, words. Even though I’m a journalist I’ve never been a huge fan of keeping a journal. Once, I tried keeping a journal online and setting it as private, but that never worked well for me. I always forgot to update it, but at the end of the day, I always find myself with many thoughts.

I’d love to sit down with a notebook and a pen and just write and write until I have nothing else to put on paper. As I’m fully aware, though, that point would never come. The other night I was on StumbleUpon.com, which by the way, if you have never visited, you HAVE to. Be cautious, though, because you’ll be there for hours. Anyway, the first site that popped up on this visit to Stumble Upon was a site called “One Word.” The directions said that after I clicked next, the site would give me a word, and I was to type all my thoughts and not think at all for one minute. My first word was fracture. Not that that has much significance to me, but in those 60 seconds, I was so surprised at what I got out of my head. After I clicked ‘Submit,’ my little paragraph was posted and I could also see other people’s posts with the same word. It was awesome to see how other people used the word as well. Even if submitting your blurb isn’t for you, you should still try it out and see what’s built up inside your mind.

The site is like a magic charm for me. Stress is probably my biggest problem in life. I live a pretty great life and I can’t say I have very many serious issues, but I stress over the smallest things. Like I said previously, there’s always a to-do list in my head or on a piece of paper somewhere near me, and I’m always worried about what I have to do next. At the end of the day, I’m never just relaxed. I can’t go to bed without thinking of what I have to do the next day, as I’m sure many of you can’t either. Some people may say that’s a good thing; that I’m on top of my game and responsible, but those of you with a mind that never rests like mine know that all the built up stress can really take a toll on you. That’s why I find OneWord.com so relaxing.

If you’ve got a few extra minutes at the end of the day, try it out. Relax, put your feet up, and let your mind empty itself onto this site just by simply giving you one word.

If you’ve got a few more minutes, try these worthwhile sites as well. Drinkify.org gives you a drink to try after you type in what type of music you’re listening to, and then also plays a little music for you. Q.uote.it provides you with a list of words, and when you click on one, it gives you a random quote concerning that word. Also, if you’ve yet to join Pinterest.com, you’re missing out on some really cool recipes, DIY ideas, tricks, quotes, and pictures.
