At the Oct. 12 meeting of 100+ Women Who Care of Harrison County, the group voted to donate combined financial gifts to The Clarksburg Mission.

On Oct. 25, Organizers Deanna Oliverio Mason and Natalie Mason, along with some members, presented a check for $4,750 - and total donations of $5,650 - to Chris Mullet, Clarksburg Mission executive director.

“The donation from 100 Women Who Care will be used toward the purchase of our new sober living homes,” Mullet said. “This gift comes at a great time for us as we are making a push toward raising $380,000 which will purchase the two houses, furnish them and provide operating funds for the first year.

The homes will be used as transitional housing for individuals struggling with alcohol or drug addiction recovery.

Organizers feel the women’s group, which is fairly new, is truly making a real difference in the community. During the October meeting – the group’s third – members heard from Belinda Kirby about The Mission’s needs, as well as Carla Yaquinta of Bridgeport YoungLife and Jaclyn Rominger of Stars and Strides Therapeutic Equine Center.

At the first meeting of the 501C3 organization, 40 attending members voted to award a financial gift to the Bridgeport Little League Challenger Division. A check for $4,000 was presented to Mike and Kim Martin on the league’s opening day. At the group’s second meeting, members voted to donate to The Elle Foundation, thereafter presenting finder Krista Arnold with a check for $5,870. That money is being used by foundation to ensure that infants born with congenital heart defects receive proper monitoring.

Deanna Oliverio Mason said she is pleased with the group’s work thus far, but that she wants to see it continue to grow and make even more impact on local charities. The goal, of course, is to reach the 100-member benchmark.

“I can’t wait until we can present an organization with $10,000,” she said.

The next meeting is 6 p.m. Jan. 18 at Bridgeport Country Club. All Harrison County women are encouraged to attend.
