ACT 2 Theatre Company to Perform Radio Plays

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on April 25, 2019 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

ACT 2 Theatre Company invites you to be a part of our "studio audience" as we transform McCrory Marketplace Great Hall into a live "broadcast" of radio drama and comedy!

Directed by Lydia Mong, the theatre group will present Radio Plays, a collection of four different shows. Sue 'em, a comedy by Nancy Bancroft Brosius, was the first radio play in America. It takes place in 1925 when Mr. Dorn comes home with a sore leg after getting bumped by a truck while crossing a street. Will the family sue?

The comedy, The Neglected Crop, by the USDA Radio Service dates back to 1927, and is about different points off view by a family's parents and their kids about keeping their farm going.

The radio/stage play by Eric Coble, Professor Pedanto on "Sound of Music," "Music Man," "Oklahoma" is an interview with a leading authority on musical theatre.

The mystery, Candy Matson, YUkon 2-8209: "The Cable Car Murder," is one of a series of female private eye shows from 1940-1951. Candy (along with police Lt. Ray Mallard) investigates and attempts to solve the murder of a grumpy man she sits next to on a cable car, who mysteriously gets shot and killed without anyone hearing the shot.

Our talented Radio Players are Callia Byard, Isaiah Evans, Victor Folio, John L. Hall, Maelee Henderson, Derek Hess, Owen Hess, Rex Kelch, Julie Kennedy-Rea, Mortimer Kennedy-Rea, Bev Oliver, Dominic Smith and Richard Southall.

Radio Plays is set to open on April 25th with more performances on April 26, 27, 28 and May 2-5. Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances will be held at 7:30 PM with Sunday performances at 2 PM.
