Associated Businesses of Bridgeport Scarecrow Display/Contest to Take Place Oct. 10-Nov. 1

By Julie Perine on September 25, 2022 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

It’s once again time for the Main Street scarecrow display and contest, sponsored by the Associated Businesses of Bridgeport.

All dues-paying ABB member businesses are invited to register to display a scarecrow. For those new to the contest, the ABB provides fair warning that competition is steep as businesses annually create some unique scarecrow characters. Scarecrows pertaining to the business itself, or to pop culture, or simply the Halloween season will be out in full force in the next couple of weeks. Deadline for display is Sunday, Oct. 9. Once the attached registration form is completed and sent to Project Chair Hilary Gonzalez, she will assign a city light post for your scarecrow.

Scarecrows must be constructed from durable materials that will endure weather and should be between five and six feet tall. They should be secured to the light post facing oncoming traffic. Zip ties are recommended for attaching to the light post.

Beginning Monday, Oct 10, voting will take place via Connect-Bridgeport and will end Friday, Oct. 28. In addition to the people’s choice award, one scarecrow will receive an award from a panel of non-biased judges. Except for the two winning scarecrows, all displays must be removed by Tues., Nov. 1. Winners will be displayed through Friday, Nov. 4.

Last year, 26 businesses participated in the display/contest. Hearing Solutions Services took the people’s choice award with its Star Wars-themed scarecrow and About You Monograms won the judge’s award for its likeness of the popular Toy Story character Bo Peep.

ABB dues for 2023 are $95 and due Oct. 1, 2022. All Bridgeport businesses are welcome to join. Find a membership form HERE
