BHS Announces Douglas Soule and Courtney Freeman as the January Students of the Month

Bridgeport High School has announced that Douglas Soule and Hannah Dunn are the January Students of the Month.
Douglas Soule is the son of Jeremy and Melanie Soule. Douglas was selected as a Student Ambassador for the 2015 HOBY Leadership Seminar. He returned to the 2016 HOBY Leadership Seminar on Operations Staff. Douglas went to the 2015 Governor 's School of the Arts for Creative Writing and to the 2016 Governor 's Honors Academy. Douglas placed first in the West Virginia Thespian Playwright Contest in the Advanced category. Working alongside another Bridgeport High School student, he placed first in the 2016 NO School Spirits PSA Contest. Douglas is the 2016-201 7 West Virginia District Bulletin Editor and is the Historian of Thespian Troupe #7549. He is a member of Key Club, Thespian Troupe #7549, the Drug Free Clubs of America, the Harrison County Dream TEAM, and Inspire West Virginia. Douglas went to The American Legion Mountaineer Boys State in 2016 and was selected as the West Virginia representative for the 2016 Al Neuharth Free Spirit and Journalism Conference. Douglas has written and directed two plays for Bridgeport High School, called Inevitability Incarnate and Headache. He has also been involved in numerous high school productions, including Peter Pan, Sing Down the Moon, Once Upon a Mattress, Lovers of Verona, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Leader of the Pack, and Medea. Douglas is a blogger and makes videos that have been published on Connect Bridgeport. He even has his own website, which can be found at http://douglassouleoffici.wixsite.com  /mysite .
 
Douglas enjoys reading, writing, politics, and community service. He has hundreds of hours of community service under his belt and has received The President's Volunteer Service Award. One of his main initiatives throughout high school has been to encourage his peers to get more involved in civic engagement and community service. He aims to have the greatest possible positive impact upon this world as he can. His current college plans are to double major in Political Science and Journalism.
 
Courtney Freeman is the daughter of Sam and Cheryl Freeman of Bridgeport. She is Vice President of the National Honor Society and is involved with DASH youth group at Trinity Assembly of God Church in Fairmont, where she worked in the nursery. She was selected to attend the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) seminar preceding her junior year and attended the Governor 's Honor's Academy this past summer. She has been a member of Key Club and the girls' basketball team. Freeman enjoys volunteering at the Humane Society and Clarksburg Mission, as well as keeping stats for her brothers AAU basketball team. She has been on a mission 's trip to Haiti and has lead a Bible study at BHS. She is a lifeguard at the Bridgeport City Pool and works at Chick-fil-a at the Meadowbrook mall. She was a member of the 2016 Homecoming Court. Freeman plans to attend West Virginia University where she will major in psychology and go to law school.
