BHS Announces Students of the Month for March, Maya Flowers and Michael Duez

The Bridgeport High School Students of the Month for March are Maya Flowers and Michael Duez.
 
Maya Flowers is the daughter of DeeDee Flowers of Bridgeport. She is currently a member of the National Honors Society, a co-editor of the 2015 yearbook , as well as an editor for the BHS play programs. In the beginning of the school year, Flowers was chosen as a Senior Princess during Homecoming week . She is a dancer at Altered Productions Institute for the Creative Arts, previously a member of the senior dance company. She works a part-time job and loves to babysit when she can. Flowers is a member at All Saints Catholic Church and enjoys volunteering within the community. In her free time she loves to bake and cook, and appreciates creative writing , drawing and the arts. She made her BHS Theatre debut last October in the Senior play "HONK!" Flowers will be attending Duquesne University in the Fall studying Occupational Therapy.
 
 
Michael Duez is the oldest son of Matt and Michelle Duez.  Michael has played several sports for the Indians.  Freshman year Michael was the Indians freshman quarterback.  He ran varsity Track all four years.  Sophomore year, he was a member of the state championship 4 x 800 relay team that also broke and holds the school record.  Junior year, he was a member of the state championship boy’s track team.  Michael is a 2015 team captain.  Michael lettered in Cross Country in the three years he ran - sophomore, junior and senior.  He competed at states all three years and was part of the back to back state Boys Cross Country Championships in 2013 and 2014.  He was the 2014 Harrison County Boys Cross Country Champion and the 2014 BHS Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year and a team captain.
 
Michael received his academic letter and lamps.  He attended the American Legion Boys State in summer 2014. He’s been a member of Bridgeport Younglife since freshman year.  Michael is employed by the City of Bridgeport at the City Pool in the summer and as gym supervisor in the fall and winter.  He is also a member of the Bridgeport United Methodist Church. 
 
In the fall, Michael will be attending West Virginia Wesleyan College.  He received the Dean’s Scholarship.  He will be running for the Cross Country and Track and Field teams.
