Band camp for Bridgeport High School makes its return in early August after a one-year hiatus because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Full band camp will begin on Monday, Aug. 9 at the school and will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

On Aug. 5, the percussion section is asked to be at the school from 9 a.m. to noon and on the following day, also from 9 a.m. to noon, there will be an orientation for freshmen and new students.

“We generally cover a lot of the basics with them on this day and give them a chance to get prepared before the official camp starts,” BHS band director Chris Hayslette said. “We will cover basic marching and maneuvering, warm-ups, how to read their drill charts, etc.

Reese Allen has been selected as the 2021-22 drum major and the BHS band will be sporting new uniforms this year (in the included photo of Allen, he is wearing the new uniform).

Hayslette said the band has approximately 80 members on the roster right now and that number is an increase from last year.

The band is also planning to do a full field show this year entitled, “Native Rituals.”

“We are excited and looking forward to returning to a more normal marching season this year,” Hayslette said.

Hayslette also wants to remind all planning on participating in band that the WVSSA requires them to have a completed physical form.

All forms that students will need are available HERE
