The Bridgeport Middle School Opening Act Show Choir competed in the West Virginia State Show Choir Competition Friday, March 24 at Hurricane High School. The 38-member show choir was one of eight choirs competing. Under the direction of Nell Givens, the group has been working since August to learn and refine its “Superhero” show, inspired by Bridgeport’s own superhero, five-year-old Jack Rollins, who died in 2016 after battling neuroblastoma. The choir didn’t earn one of the top spots, but according to Givens, performed with heart and as true champions.

“The group has worked so hard all year long,” she s aid. “I am proud of what they have done and how far they have come.”

Danae Terry was selected as the group’s best performer and the Opening Act Show Choir Band was named best band.
