Boxing it Up to Give Thanks Sends Appreciation to Community for Support

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on December 07, 2019 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

The Boxing it Up to Give Thanks program was founded in 2017 by the Bridgeport High School Key Club, spearheaded by Hannah Povroznik. The thought behind the idea was to lift financial burden from families in need during the Thanksgiving season. It was a simple concept, but one which would require help from members of the community.

With five high schools now involved - BHS, Liberty, Lewis, Robert C. Byrd and Notre Dame - this year's program resulted in a record year.

Povroznik said 1,369 boxes of Thanksgiving food items were delivered through 34 food pantries and backpack programs in seven counties. To make that happen, $36,000 was raised by high school student leaders. She said supportive businesses and community members made weeks of fundraising campaigns very successful.

She said there is no better way to bring closure to Boxing It Up 2019 than a video capturing the heart of community outreach.

"For those who volunteered to assemble and distribute boxes, we thank you for your devotion. For our donors, we thank you for believing in our vision. And for all who shared their time and energy mentoring the leaders behind Boxing It Up, we are forever grateful," Povroznik said. "Words could never express Boxing It Up in its entirety, but I pray this video provides you a glimpse. May it be a final tribute to the campaign's year of growth, dedication, perseverance and achievement."
