Bridgeport PD Sets Temporary No-Parking Order; Provides Instructions for This Week's Holiday Events

By Julie Perine on November 30, 2016 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

This week’s special holiday observances come along with some special instructions from Bridgeport Police Department.
Saturday is the city’s annual Christmas Parade. Beginning at 10 a.m., 40 to 50 units including floats - marching bands and dance groups, sports teams and civic clubs – will progress West on Main Street, winding up in front of Benedum Civic Center.

In connection with Saturday’s parade, Bridgeport Police has established a temporary no-parking order, which will be enforced, according to Lt. John Post.

Between 5 a.m. and noon Saturday, on-street parking will not be permitted on Fifth Street or on Grand Avenue between Third and Fifth Streets.

“That’s where much of the parade lines up,” Post said. “Officers will be checking to ensure vehicles are off the streets and if owners cannot be found, we’ll have to move them.”

Main Street – between Route 131 and Orchard Street – will be temporarily closed during the parade.

“We’ll have traffic control in place about 15 minutes before the 10 a.m. start time and throughout the parade, sometime between 10:30 and 11:30 a.m.,” Post said.

Detours will be in place and clearly marked during that time.

Bridgeport Police remind parade units to not stop and unload on the railroad tracks and if proceeding across the tracks before dispensing to make sure they are completely across. It’s also imperative, Post said, not to block oncoming units, leaving room for them to get around.

For Thursday evening’s Light Up Night, motorists are to expect delays on Main Street – between Philadelphia Avenue and Virginia Avenue – from 5 to 10 p.m. The street will close to traffic between 5 and 5:30 p.m. and reopen when the event is over. Again, detours will be in place.

Bridgeport Police Department appreciates the community’s cooperation and encourages all to come out and enjoy festivities.
