Demolition Work Nearly Complete on Worthington Drive; Route 131 Property Scheduled for Demo Today

By Julie Perine on July 17, 2018 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Demolition work began Monday of the Worthington Drive property recently acquired by the City of Bridgeport. According to Steve Gabbert of Reclaim - the company hired for the demo – the Worthington Drive property should be clear of debris Tuesday and that demolition of the Route 131 property, also recently acquired by the city, will begin Tuesday. Reclaim recently performed asbestos abatement work on both properties and Gabbert said both were cleared for demolition.

Monday's work at Worthington Drive was going smoothly, Gabbert said. The Worthington Drive property is located on lower Worthington Drive and is adjacent to the City of Bridgeport basketball and volleyball courts, as well as the playground known as Alligator Park. Also located in the vicinity is Bridgeport Pool. The property will be utilized by Bridgeport Parks and Recreation as an extension of that complex. The property was purchased by a private property owner. Read more HERE in a story by Jeff Toquinto.

The property scheduled for demolition today is located just across Route 131 from Forrester Boulevard, which leads to Bridgeport Recreation Complex and the forthcoming indoor sports complex. That property, purchased by the Benedum Airport Authority, is projected to be used for city storage purposes and overflow parking for Rec Complex events.
