Energy Express AmeriCorps is a Go for the Summer

FROM HARRISON COUNTY PARKS AND RECREATION

During a time where things are not normal and where learning today has to be creative, Energy Express AmeriCorps is finding ways to help.

Energy Express is a free 6-week summer reading program for children entering first through sixth grades. In previous years, kids would come to various sites located throughout the county, however, with the COVID-19 pandemic, our mentors will provide activities for your child to complete at home. These activities will be distributed through local feeding sites, online, mail or other approved delivery methods. AmeriCorps members will not be permitted to enter homes during the program, but may drop off materials, if appropriate.

In the past, kids who were accepted into the Energy Express program were exposed to the wonderment of reading in a fun setting where kids can get one on one attention all while maintaining or increasing their reading levels. Today, through the creativity of using the internet, Mentors can continue to help kids through online activities to stay active during the summer months. Children will have the opportunity to participate in additional learning through a variety of media such as local television broadcasting and free online access to Scholastic’s Lit Pro Program, which gives children access to 3,500+ book selections for independent reading. These activities will help us gauge your child’s reading and comprehensive programs.

The program will start on June 22nd and wrap up July 31st, 2020. Spaces are limited and there are plans for a meal program as well. Here are the different ways where you can register your child.

First, you may register your child online at https://wvu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_4UiGlF64nWjLutL. Simply highlight the link and right click on your computer and open. The form is pretty simple to fill out. WE DO RECOMMEND you do this on your computer as compared to a smart phone. Or you can get a hard copy of the application and mail to Harrison County Parks and Recreation 43 Recreation Drive Clarksburg WV 26301 or scan and email to Mbook@harrisoncountywv.com
