Featuring Southern, Beach-Like Vibes and Brand Name Lines, Meadowbrook Mall's New Store Tru South Projected to Open May 1

First came Xtreme Sports, then came Xtreme Sports 2 MotoCross. Now owners Tim and Missy Ingram are opening a third store at Meadowbrook Mall.

Located in the space formerly occupied by Aeropostale, Tru South features a southern, beach-like vibe with everything from brand-name apparel and bathing suits to bath balms, lotions and sunglasses available for purchase.

“We’ll have a lot of niche items; basically southern apparel, Yeti items, Oakley and Costa sunglasses and an array of things – sandals, Sperry shoes and nautical-themed and southern apparel,” Missy Ingram said.

With a projected May 1 opening date, the store has been freshly painted and new floors installed. The couple is currently working on a very unique focal point for their original, one-of-a-kind shop.

“We bought a real sailboat and will use it for display,” Ingram said.
The boat will be utilized to display some of the store’s specialty items and brand name apparel and accessories, lines including Jadelynn Brooke, Vineyard Vines, Lauren James, Simply Southern, RVCA, Under Armor and Guy Harvey.

“It’s going to be a really cool concept; something different,” Ingram said. “A lot of these things you can’t buy unless you’re at the beach or buy online.”

If it seems the store is heavy on women’s brands and light on men’s brands, that’s kind of the plan.

Xtreme Sports started out with, as its name indicates, extreme sporting gear like airsoft guns and accessories, radio control vehicles, hover boards and ski gear, to name a few items. As time went on, inventory also included various other items like apparel – both men’s and women’s.

“Guys were coming in, asking why we had all the girl stuff,” Ingram said. “They wondered what happened to their store.”

Some of those women’s and girls’ items will be moved to the new store, where a whole new inventory of dresses, bathing suits and casualwear for gals of all ages will also be featured.
“It will smell good and feel just like you’re walking into a beach shop,” Ingram said. “We’ll have jewelry too.”

In addition to items previously mentioned, Xtreme Sports will carry seasonal items – skis and ski apparel, camping gear and hammocks and new for this spring and summer, kayaks and paddleboards.

Although each store will have its own focus, there will be some overlap. Oakley and Costa sunglasses and Yeti items, for example, will be available in both. Xtreme Sports will also start carrying some items previously only available at Xtreme Sports 2 MotoCross store (located at the far end of the mall, near the Elder-Beerman Home Store).

“A lot of people just don’t go to that end of the mall, so we’re going to bring some of the riding gear and other items to the other store and maybe just have the motocross store open on certain days,” Ingram said.
