Harrison County Non-Competitive Youth Basketball Sign-Ups Start Tuesday

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on November 29, 2021 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

The Harrison County Parks and Recreation will host a non-competitive basketball league for young hoop stars in the entire Harrison County area. There will be a non-competitive league for kids between 5-8 years of age.

“We have been trying to find ways for all the kids in Harrison County to learn the game of basketball,” said Jack Cann of the HCPR. We have an assortment of kids who have played basketball from high school through college and they will teach the kids the basics of basketball in hopes that the kids will want to continue the sport to higher levels.”

The youth basketball league, which is strictly an instructional league, is open to all kids in Harrison County and a  positive atmosphere is what the Parks and Rec department wants to achieve.  The league will have the two division at 5-6 years of age and 7-8 years old.

“We are looking to find ways to expand our league throughout the county,” Cann said.  “If you live in Salem or in Bridgeport, the league is open to you. Instead of having different leagues throughout the county, we will have one for the entire area in hopes of having many participants. Our goal is to have anywhere from 6-10 teams per division.”

Registration for both leagues will be Tuesday, Nov. 30, Wednesday, Dec. 1, Tuesday, Dec. 7 and Wednesday, Dec. 8. The time for all four days is  5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The sign-up site is located at the Harrison County Parks and Recreation Department located on Rt. 19 South just past Rosebud Plaza.

At the completion of registration, teams will be formed and practices should start in December. All games will be played at North View Elementary and a schedule of practices and games will be given out once teams have been chosen.

“We are hoping for a huge turnout for the league this year and the changes in the programs will make a positive impact for the future of the program,” Cann said.
