Harrison County Parks and Recreation's Winter Exhibit "Walking with the Dinosaurs" Returns

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on February 08, 2016 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Harrison County Parks and Recreation will open its winter exhibit “Walking with Dinosaurs” on Wednesday February 10th at the Harrison County Recreation Complex located on Route 19 South of Clarksburg.

This year’s theme, “Seas and Skies,” will focus primarily on the reptiles of the prehistoric age. There are roughly 200 real and replicated fossils on property for children and adults of all ages can study. Director Mike Book and staff have been planning for this annual event for nearly six months and feels that this might be the best one since the idea of creating a dinosaur exhibit.

“We are extremely proud of the exhibit that we have created,” said Book. “We try to change the theme yearly and this year we agreed on the seas and skies.  Those who visit will be able to see first-hand on what creatures looked like during the prehistoric time period. We promise no one will be disappointed who comes to the exhibit.”

Sponsored by the Harrison County Commission, the exhibit would not exist if not for the help of the Vital Service Levy. Deputy Director Doug Comer knows the importance of a positive backing from the Commission as he explains.

“The County Commission realizes the value of what we offer as it presents a positive impact not only to the students in Harrison County but to all citizens in the area. And, in doing so, they allow the HCPR to utilize all tools in order to make it a success,” said Comer. “Our primary goal is to give families in the area an opportunity to spend a day at our exhibit. Admission is free and all funding is supported by the Vital Service Levy.”

As mentioned, the exhibit is free of charge and family nights and weekends will start on February 10th and conclude on April 23rd. Hours of operation during the week are 4-8 PM while the weekend hours begin at noon and close at 6 PM.  For more information, please contact the HCPR at 304 423-7800.
