Featuring student performances and artwork, as well as hands-on educational components, Harrison County Schools 4^th Annual Family Day is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 19 at Meadowbrook Mall.

 

Students and their families can browse displays provided by community vendors and take part in interactive offerings of the Carnegie Science Center and Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh.

 

“This is our fourth year to host Family Day and we are proud to host an event that Harrison County Schools works so hard to create,” said Meadowbrook Mall Marketing Director Robin Urquhart. “The event is great for the entire family. Every school is represented so that parents can talk face-to-face with someone if they have questions. And there is educational entertainment for every age group of students.”

 

The mallwide event runs 11 a.m. through 3 p.m. As is tradition, Superintendent of Harrison County Schools Dr. Mark Manchin will kick off activities by sharing a few words, Urquhart said.

A transition fair will feature agency resource booths for students with disabilities. A student art gallery, student performances and used book drive for Harrison County Literacy Volunteers are just a few of the activities in store for those who attend Family Day.

 

With costumed character meet-and-greets, a Bridgeport Fire Department display and performances by groups including Bridgeport ATA Martial Arts and Mitzi Layne Studio 4 Dance, Family Day is jam-packed with fun and entertainment, providing students with not only an educational overview, but also opportunities for extra-curricular involvement.

 

Urquhart said the venue is ideal for Harrison County Schools’ Family Day.

 

“Families are already here shopping, so if we are able to assist Harrison County Schools in making the transition into a new school year easier for everyone, it’s a win-win situation for all of us,” she said.
