Heat Advisory, Potential Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued by National Weather Service

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on July 25, 2016 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

The National Weather Service has issued a severe weather threat. Thunderstorms will develop after 1 p.m. and could become severe as early as 3 p.m. The threat will move south and east from the northern panhandle and Ohio Valley into the Clarksburg and Morgantown area. The threat should stay north of U.S. Route 33, but a few strong storms may also develop in the central part of the state. Damaging wind gusts are possible with potential downed trees and power lines. Because of high moisture content in the atmosphere, heavy rainfall is expected, which could lead to the rise of local creeks and streams.

Prior to the threat of storms, a heat advisory is in effect with heat index approaching 100 degrees before thunderstorms arrive.

As of 11:30 a.m., Harrison County was in a band of counties under marginal risk for most severe weather. See the weather map below. Stay up to date at the National Weather Service HERE
