Highland-Clarksburg Hospital has wrapped up their first annual Soles for September Shoe Drive to benefit two Harrison County elementary schools. Collection of shoes occurred at the front of the hospital for the whole month.

The original goal of 200 shoes was surpassed with nearly 300 pair of shoes being donated. The hospital also provided several school supplies to one of the schools, with the other one to receive supplies in the spring.

The shoe drive encouraged not only employees of the hospital to bring in new or gently used shoes, but members of the community were asked to donate as well. Any shoes that were not appropriate for school aged children were donated to William R. Sharpe, Jr. Hospital’s Stomp Out Stigma shoe drive.

“We are going to be giving back to two schools. We exceeded our goal of 200 plus and we have almost 300 pairs of shoes,” said Shannon Putnam, Director of Marketing.

HCHI plans to hold the Soles for September shoe drive again next year.
