Bridgeport High School seniors are gearing up for an action-packed week of graduation activities which end with the May 25 commencement ceremony at Wayne Jamison Field.

The series of senior activities started Sunday with the senior trip to Cedar Point. After a carefree day of fun, seniors practice this morning for Senior Assembly, which takes place Tuesday at the BHS auditorium.

“We’ll be presenting awards related to the school and for their post-education careers,” said BHS Assistant Principal Renee Mathews. “We’ll also be awarding students who have achieved 4.0 and presenting Students of the Month with their plaques, as well as recognizing students for scholarships received.”

Mathews reminds students to make sure Junior/Senior Counselor Jenna Edwards of any scholarships received so they will be on the list used at Tuesday’s assembly. Providing special music will be senior members of the BHS orchestra and strings ensemble.

Parents and family members are invited to attend the Senior Assembly, which begins at 9 a.m. and expected to end around 11 a.m.

Special music will be provided by selected students and BHS Senior Class Representatives Kirstin George and Tristan Nolte will address their student peers.

Tuesday evening is the senior baccalaureate service at Bridgeport United Methodist Church. Parents are also invited and encouraged to attend the service, which begins at 6 p.m. Following the service, graduating students will attend their senior banquet at Bridgeport Conference Center. That event is scheduled for 7:15 to 8:15 p.m.

The annual Rose Breakfast takes place 7 a.m. at the BHS cafeteria, followed by viewing of the senior video and graduation practice at 9 a.m.

Weather permitting, graduation will be held on Wayne Jamison Field and will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 25. In the case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held inside the BHS gymnasium. In that case, a limited amount of tickets will be distributed to each graduating senior.

Special music for graduation will be provided by vocalists Erica Cottrill and Calia Byard, both BHS seniors.

In addition to speeches delivered by Mr. and Miss BHS – Vincent Pinti and Kristen Crowder - members of the senior class will provide special music.

As always, BHS juniors will be involved in commencement exercises. Leading the seniors in the graduation processional to “Pomp and Circumstance” – played by the BHS Band.

Mathews said there are 209 members of the 2019 graduating class.
