Local Fundraiser in Honor of Carmine Cann's Recent Passing Raises Hundreds for Shepherds Corner

A local fundraiser done in honor of the passing of one of former local resident who served as an elected official, businessman and more raised plenty of dollars for a Bridgeport charity.

Late last month, Bridgeport Physical Therapy held a Carmine Cann Appreciation and Memorial Day. The event took place March 31 to honor Cann, 90, who passed March 24.

The staff held one of its “jean days” in his honor. Jean day allows workers at Bridgeport Physical Therapy’s office on Main Street and the new location at White Oaks to dress casually under one condition. All staff that wear jeans donate in order to wear jeans and, in this case, were able to wear West Virginia University tops as well.

On that day, there was also a bucket sat out that allowed clients, both past and present, and members of the community. As it turns out, that is exactly what happened.

A total of approximately $600 was raised during the day. Bridgeport Physical Therapy also will chip in dollars as well.

“It went pretty well,” said BPT’s Jack Spatafore, who said he and the staff knew Cann for nearly 20 years.

The money will be donated to the local Shepherds Corner after being present to All Saints Catholic Church. Area churches work to assist the Shepherds Corner.
