Local NFL Punt, Pass, and Kick Qualifier Wrapped Up with Some Winners on Saturday

The NFL Punt, Pass and Kick local qualifier wrapped up Saturday morning, September 28th at the Summit Park Recreation Complex.  The Harrison County Parks and Recreation, in conjunction with the Knights of Columbus, hosted and scored the event.  Participation totaled over 40 athletes for the day and the ages ranged from 6 – 13 years old.  The winners of each age bracket moves on to the regional qualifier at Laurel Highlands High School in Uniontown, PA.
 
“Overall, we are extremely pleased with the day,” related Sports Coordinator Jeff Wetzel. “The weather was beautiful and the event ran without any hitches.  Congrats to all the participants and best of luck to those who will move on to Uniontown.”
 
Emily Riggs of Bridgeport qualified in her age bracket and will attempt her quest to the nationals once again.  Her three category total of 295 feet topped all athletes for the day.  Payton Hawkins of Shinnston, who qualified in the 10-11 age bracket, dominated his group with a combined total of 269 feet.  The runner-up was 73 feet behind in total.
 
Clarksburg’s Mia Beto repeated as winner of the 8-9 year old and will look to make a second trip to Pittsburgh in as many years.  Beto, and her sister Talia, are one of two families to have siblings qualify for sectional play.  Jack and Anthony Spatafore are the other set of brothers that won their respective brackets.
