By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on July 19, 2017 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Today, July 19, 2017, marks the one-year anniversary of the death of five-year-old Jack Rollins, who through his courageous, nearly three-year fight with Neuroblastoma, won the hearts of people throughout the community, state and beyond.

The young son of Brooke and Ryan Rollins – who became the people’s superhero – left WVU Children's Hospital in Morgantown for his forever home on the evening of Tues., July 19, 2016, and continues to be an icon of strength, faith and hope.

Various community businesses are paying tribute to Jack and his family today.
Bridgeport Bob Evans has a table set up for anyone wishing to paint a rock and place in a vase for Jack’s mom Brooke and his grandma Belinda. Employees will be wearing Jack shirts and superhero shirts in Jack’s honor.

Almost Heaven Dessert and Coffee Shop on West Main Street is offering special superhero sugar cookies in Jack’s memory.

On Friday, July 21, a lantern release will be held at Bridgeport Recreation Complex, honoring Jack. Beginning at 8:30 p.m., lanterns will be distributed with a release time of 9 p.m. Community members are asked to wear their favorite Team Jack or Superhero shirts. Spiderman will also be in attendance. In the event of rain on Friday evening, the lantern release will be held Saturday at the same time and at the same venue.

Pictured is a lantern release which was held in February as the community celebrated what would have been Jack's sixth birthday.
