Off the Shelf: Seasonal Decorations at the Bridgeport Public Library

By Sharon Saye on December 19, 2018 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Christmas arrived at the library with the Woman’s Club of Bridgeport decorating the entryways with bright seasonal trees.  The front tree is done in beautiful golds and crystals, and the one for the children’s section is aptly full of fanciful decorations.  This annual donation to the community and its library is much appreciated by patrons and staff.  Special thanks go to Terri Bracken, Shirley Hadorn, Anne Yost, Barbara Wilburn, Judy Lawson, and Judy Osborne for all their hard work in creating such delightful holiday splendor.

Our holiday concert series continued earlier this month with wonderful performances by the Bridgeport High School Jazz Band, and the Bridgeport High School Show Choir.  Many thanks to all the talented young adults and their dedicated leaders, Chris Hayslette and Robin Bohn. The Woman’s Club stepped up again to provide refreshments for the Open House.  How would we every survive without all their hard work?

Every year on behalf of the Garden Club, Wanda Griffin and her husband assembled a beautiful tree of Scandinavian origin.  It boasts assorted wooden ornaments with rough painting in red, green and yellow, and small bouquets of natural materials.  Wanda Griffin is no longer with us but the library staff decorated the tree with the beautiful ornaments they had provided.  The tree is proudly brightening the conference room.

Also, we want to express our great appreciation to the employees of the City of Bridgeport for the building’s bright lighting.  Without the help of all these generous people, the library would still be bright, but not quite so sparkly this holiday season.  Thank you again from the staff for all your hard work.

The library staff also deserves appreciation for all the work they put in during the chaos of the renovations.  We planned ahead, but it was still a constant struggle every day moving books and furniture left and right.  They all deserve a hand of applause.

City facilities including the library will be closing at noon on December 21 for the City Christmas party.  The library will be open on Saturday, December 22, but will be closed Monday and Tuesday for the Christmas holidays.  Our regular hours resume on December 26. The library will also be closed on December 31 and January 1st for the New Year holiday.  Just remember the library has an extensive array of services available through the Internet including downloadable books, audios, music, magazines and databases.  These services are available 24/7.
